Townsville North Star Athletic Club Inc. © All Reserved.

The North Star Recreation Club was formed on 12th April 1962 at Warrina Park, Currajong. Athletics was the stronger of the several sports played, so a change of name to Townsville North Star Amateur Athletic Club followed.  Over the years the grounds at Warrina Park have been built up from a dusty park to a well maintained community facility.

The Club was incorporated on 2nd December 1988, becoming the Townsville North Star Athletics Club Inc.  Affiliation with Queensland Athletics commenced in March 1995. Townsville North Star has long been affiliated with Amateur Athletics and was a founding member of Athletics North Queensland in 1997.  The original Club colours of yellow and black were replaced by the familiar purple, black and white in 1998.

Athletics can be a lifelong interest with competition available from five years through to Masters.  Amateur Athletics provides the pathway for athletes to progress through to the elite level and possibly to International competition. North Star caters for all levels of athletes.

In 2004 the Club moved its weekly competitions from Warrina Park to the Townsville Sports Reserve.  This first class facility is one of only two tartan tracks in North Queensland and we are very privileged to be able to utilize it on a weekly basis. Warrina Park is still being used for training and coaching purposes.  At present North Star shares this facility with Teachers West Rugby Union Club.

Club competitions are conducted at the Townsville Sports Reserve on Friday nights for all age groups commencing at 5.45pm with warm up. Events start at 6pm and the program generally concludes between 8pm and 9pm, with the youngest age groups usually finishing at the earlier time.  We follow a six week rotating program (see events) and during the course of the six weeks, athletes will have participated in all events applicable to their age group.

The Sports Reserve is located in North Ward (14 Warburton St) and we use the Burke Street entrance for access.  Ample on-street parking is available on Burke St. Parking in the vehicular access to the Townsville Sports Reserve on Friday nights is strictly for Committee members ONLY. Committee members use this parking bay to load and unload equipment necessary for club competition nights.

The first three Club competitions of the season are typically "trial nights' and no points are awarded during this time.  However, commencing on the 2nd of May, points will be awarded for athletes performances and a personal record for each athlete is maintained throughout the season.  Club records are updated and maintained on a regular basis and can be viewed either at the Club competitions or on the web site under "Results". Points will ONLY be awarded to athletes who are fully financial and wearing the full Club uniform with ANQ numbers attached.  Club records can only be set at the Townsville Sports Reserve by fully registered athletes and must be verified by a nominated official.

In the event of bad weather, please refer to our North Star Facebook page or call the club mobile to find out if the competition has been cancelled.

The North Star club uniform is a purple and white polo shirt/singlet/crop top worn with plain black shorts/bike pants/skins. ANQ registered numbers are to be attached to the front and back of the shirt. The wearing of the club uniform is compulsory to all club competition days. Only athletes in full club uniform will be awarded points towards the end of season trophies and awards.
